Diesel and heavy equipment technicians repair and maintain construction equipment such as bulldozers, cranes, and road graders; transportation equipment such as heavy trucks, buses, locomotives, ships, and automobiles; and farm equipment such as tractors and combines. Diesel and heavy equipment technicians use a variety of computerized testing equipment to pinpoint and analyze malfunctions as well as numerous power and hand tools to perform repairs. They also serve a variety of other diesel-powered equipment, such as electronic generators and forklifts. Many technicians perform a broad range of repairs from engines to electrical systems and others specialize in repairs such as fuel and starting systems.
The Diesel Program at ACE is a 1-3 year program providing training from basic to advanced skills required for employment in this area. Students in this program articulate to Truckee Meadows Community College’s one-year Certificates of Achievement and/or AAS degree.
Our Diesel Program will give students the opportunity to practice shop and work safety; locate and interpret repair specifications and processes; remove and replace components; operate tools and equipment; service, repair defective, and diagnose condition of components or systems.
